Union Square is truly the center of it all. On any given day expect to find hundreds of people walking the streets in this popular San Francisco neighborhood. Union Square is a large square in the middle of downtown where cultural events, art walks, street performers, and locals and tourist alike come to gather. However, the name "Union Square" also applies to the surrounding neighborhood full of department stores, boutiques, art galleries, restaurants, and more. Inside the square itself you will find lots of art installations, most famously the Dewey Monument, a tall statue in the center of the square. Also look for the Heart sculptures at the four corners of the square, which change frequently. Whether you want to go shopping, drink some coffee at a nearby cafe, simply walk through and take some photos, or you're visiting in the winter and want to go ice skating, this bustling city square is a must see on any San Francisco trip plan. You can also catch the cable car going to Fisherman's Wharf from Powell street on the Western side of the square.
