Go Fishing for Souvenirs

Fisherman's Wharf is an iconic old fishing port located on the San Francisco Bay, which has become a hot spot for shops, restaurants, souvenir stores, street entertainers, and tourists eager to take some beautiful photos. As you walk along the wharf, notice the plaques throughout that explain the history behind San Francisco's fishing trade. Known largely for dungeness crab, Fisherman's Wharf offers tons of fresh seafood and particularly succulent crab and clam chowder in a freshly baked sourdough bread bowl. The most famous area of the wharf is Pier 39, an pier full of shops, restaurants, and tourist attractions, such as caricature artists and other street vendors. Pier 39 offers an aquarium, a carousel, and a maze of mirrors amongst other things. This family friendly attraction is great for kids or adults simply looking for some good old fashioned fun. Pier 39 is certainly a tourist area so don't expect to see locals hanging around; still, this popular spot is famous for a reason, so don't pass it up on you SF trip plan. Perhaps the most famous component of Pier 39 is the congregation of sea lions. In 1990 after the Loma Prieta earthquake, nearly 300 sea lions began to call Pier 39 home. Today they still gather at the Pier and provide tourists with some awesome photos! In the summer most of them migrate South but a few will still remain. So enjoy strolling through Fisherman's Wharf, listen to the seagulls, smell the fresh fish, and gaze at the gorgeous San Francisco Bay.
